This shadow box with glass is a three dimensional diorama of jesus and the apostles sharing the last supper. It was made sometime around 1900 in what was then palestine or the holy land by an orthodox christian sect called the melchites. The ornate shape of the frame is surfaced with a mosaic of cut and carved mother of pearl as are the figures in the box. The woods used look like a mix of olive for the box and cedar for the frame. The display measures approximately 8 inches by 8 1/2 inches and 1 1/2 inches deep. The condition is very good with nice color and brightness and the box is sturdy, ready for another 100 years of admiration and meditation. This item is made of cedar and olive wood, abalone shell, mother of pearl.
