Wood covered with resin mosaics with islamic geometric patterns represents a bird that gradually transforms through 9 sequential images in its non-arabic: aayr. The frieze hangs invisibly with magnets that you need to stick to the wall or support on which you would like to lay the frieze. You can also attach it to the edge of a wall shelf as you see in the presentation photos. The frieze is light, it weighs only 140 grams, so they stand in a stable manner using the two magnets already attached to both ends of the panel.Dimensions: 91.5 x 4 x 1.5 cm. The idea of the sequential image refers to the processing of modern images in comics and animation, while the transformation also unfolds in another register: the figurative image of the horse is transformed first into an abstract image, then into writing.
This meaning is read, from left to right, identical to the reading sense of european languages, corresponds to a vision based on the history of western art conceiving abstract art as the abstraction of the figurative. The sequence of images can also be read from right to left, as one reads in arabic. Thus, it is the abstract that transforms, step by step, into figuration. This idea corresponds to a concept of islamic and sufi image where the shape of the letters recalls human or animal figures.
This panel offers a double reading: european and islamic figuration and abstraction and also brings together in itself a traditional concept and a contemporary concept of the image. I staged sequential images while using digital techniques like morphing and computational and fitness software, but also "modern" materials like resin. However, i designed them in a traditional setting referring to ancient art forms, such as mosaic and frieze frequently used in medieval and islamic art. Under order, i can make panels in the same style from another object or another animal of identical size or larger and whose price will be fixed beforehand. Once you give me your instructions for patterns and dimensions, i'll send you a quote.
